RCA 74B Microphone

We purchased this mint condition RCA 74B microphone about 7 years ago and have found it to be a very unique and interesting microphone. They were originally built as a mid level radio announcers mic in the early 1930’s and are seen in various newsreel footage from the 30’s and 40’s. While not useful on a lot of application in a recording studio, its smooth tone lends itself well to recording horns, electric guitar, vintage organ and many other sources. However, if brightness is what you are after look somewhere else as the frequency response only achieves up to 9Khz. With a sales price of only $43 in the mis 1930’s, they range from $500 to $1,000 on the vintage mic market these days.
